The different tones you can get from the Fairchild is amazing. they're different, but related in that Vari-Mu (tube) way. I would have recommended it before your purchase of the Manley Vari-Mu, honestly. So, when someone asks if they should pick up the mkII Fairchild, I always sort of jump up and down and become emphatic about it - YES! You should!! Completely astonished by the plugin, we kept the EAR around for a little while and ultimately sold it (for just over $10,000). When the new MkII UAD Fairchild plugin came out, we did quite a lot of A/B'ing, and ultimately decided that the UAD plugin could not only handle the duties of the EAR 660, but it also had that special tube tone when pushed on input the same way. I've mentioned it before on here, but the studio where I work had an old EAR 660 Compressor (essentially, a massive tube compressor made exactly like a Fairchild.) It was a staple of the studio and used all of the time for anything Fairchild-ish.
